Gordons Wine Bar

The oldest wine bar in London, Gordons is tucked away in the cellar of Samuel Pepy’s old house on the Victoria Embankment. A development which, if his diaries are anything to go by, the bibulous civil servant would have warmly welcomed.

Great Location

I have been visiting the Bar for over twenty years and it has become very popular in the last few years.
Recently have shown wine bar to some overseas guests and they have been impressed.
Great Atmosphere

Soak up the historical connections and great port. Does get crowded though.
Tourist central

This is not a bad place - in fact its rather pleasant, but it certainly isn't great. Good wines and decent knowlegeable service sure, and it has the 'ye olde' feel to it that many visitors seek. But as with any 'ye olde' places it's a tourist trap in which it is difficult to both find a seat in and get served. And don't think about mingling with Londoners. Go to the City, or Farringdon if you want something approaching atmosphere.

An Absolute Must!

Wow! What a place! For years, I never knew it was there!!
Fantastic wines and a great atomosphere. Not too expensive, and can be very busy.
But for a bottle of wine and a cracking cheese plate with friends, there is no where better!!
Must Drink!!!

this is a must when in London- however in the cooler weather inside is best, on late nights in summer outside is very relaxing.
too packed and too noisy late on thursdays, fridays.
very nice wine!
Make it your local!

Take your visiting friends, meet new and interesting people and consume copious levels of Rioja! - The place has an atmosphere of secrecy when you first visit and feels very cool without the silly pretentiousness!
A Little Bit of History

Cracking place with some great ports if that's your thing!
Can't imagine what it would have been like in the cellar before the smoking ban...food isn't bad either.
Quite simply a must visit if you're in London

This is possibly my favourite place in London to have a drink with friends, colleagues or just with somebody special.
It's always busy, but that's what adds to the atmosphere. In summer (or in winter if you're wrapped up) drink outside, otherwise stand inside and (if you're lucky) get one of the tables in the vaults. A tip here is to stand in the arch between the bar area and vaults - you'll be first to get the next table that comes free.
Oh and the wine list is reasonably priced too
Clandestine Meeting

A great place for a clandestine romantic meeting - dark corners with lot's of atmosphere
Very cool

but always packed. Still there is not many places you can get that authentic underground wine in a cellar experience like this. Take a date. Get drunk.

Underground wine activity
Sounds like a mysterious thing - you have to go to know what I'm talking about. It's like sitting in a place from the last century almost, especially if you go into the little cave area at the back. Only wine as the name says, so don't go asking for beer and other alcohol. Nice relaxing evening if you keep downing the wine. Maybe too relaxing :)
