The oldest photo of London was taken by a Frenchman, a Monsieur de St Croix. St Croix was on a tour of England between September and December 1839, when this was taken. Much of what appears in the image has disappeared but the statue of Charles I and Whitehall Banqueting Hall are still recognisable.
