Charming Sir Winston Churchill Square, tucked away behind brick walls near the meeting of Bleecker Street, Downing Street and Avenue of the Americas, is a good place to sit after shopping the many retail food shops nearby on Bleecker. The land for the park was acquired by the city in 1943 and named for the Prime Minister in honor of his war-time leadership. Adjoining is the Downing Street Playground, a favorite for neighborhood children.
